More about me and my practice
Gateway Counseling is a private intensive outpatient program for opiate dependent persons seeking treatment of addiction. Suboxone is used for detoxification and stabilization, and maintained through the IOP. Suboxone is usually able to be reduced or discontinued after participants have completed counseling, and are introduced into community 12-Step groups, if desired.
Co-occurring disorders are identified and treated, usually with a community psychiatrist familiar with recovery issues. Reduction of stabilization medications to the least effective dose is a short term goal, and maintenance of healthy emotional and spiritual life style for clients is our vision.
Specialty
Addiction Medicine since 1st certification in 1994. With recertification in 2004 came committment to delivery of compassionate care, with community education and legislative effort to enploy harm reduction at the community and state level.
I continue as adjunct instructor at Eastern Washington University in the Alcohol and Drug Studies Program (ADST) by teaching Psychopharmacology to graduate and undergraduate students pursuing various counseling credentials. It also helps keep my feet to the fire of academic advancement. Along the way, I've tried to learn more about pain management by using non-opiate alternatives. I became a Diplomate of ABAM in May 2009.
